32 years ago, I got my first job as a ‘closer’ at an upstart law firm. The job was an opportunity to advance my business, and while I can’t say I loved every minute of it, I can say that I learned how to deal with the people who worked there. I learned how to handle conflict and how to navigate the office politics.
The days were numbered for me though, my first and only client was a woman who wanted me to get the job, but because I was the only person in her office, she didn’t want me there. I was eventually fired, and my mother took me in so I could get back on my feet.
We all have ups and downs in life, but I would say that the one thing that I learned from my experience was to not give up on anything. Sometimes you have to take a risk to make something work for yourself.
I’ve always had a hard time being a “good” person. I’m really fortunate in that I’m not the kind of person that’s all about getting what you want. I’m not someone who wants to be a high school teacher or a lawyer or anything like that.
So here’s my story. I was fired from my job in 1996. My boss was a man who didnt like me and didn’t care to hear what I had to say. So I decided to take a chance and move to Mexico for a little while so I could do nothing but stay on my own. I had no idea what to do, so I took a job as a janitor at an apartment complex.
I think one of the benefits of working so long in a job where you can’t leave is that you come to associate the feeling of being in charge. The feeling of being in charge is the feeling of being autonomous. It is the feeling of being in control of your life, your actions, your emotions. It is the feeling that you have the power to do anything. When you are no longer the boss of your life, you feel free.
I just finished reading 32 years ago, and I’m still amazed at how much the movie brought to life. I can’t wait to see what director James Cameron has in store for this classic. I love that he went that direction with a movie that was so timely to the tech revolution of the late 1970s.
I always feel like I have to defend the movie a little and go into detail about the parts of it that arent great. What I will say though is that even though the movie isnt perfect, it is the perfect embodiment of what it means to be a human being. The only movie I can think of that has ever been perfect is Braveheart.
I think that one of the things Cameron did so well with this film is that he never took a moment to dwell on the fact that the movie was shot in the same place that Braveheart was filmed. I think it was a huge mistake and a cheap attempt to give the movie a certain “cool” feel. When he did do that though, it was a huge letdown because he completely missed the fact that this was a movie that was based on a true story.
I think that Cameron was doing the same thing with Braveheart that all of us who were alive when it came out are doing with this film. He took the time to make sure that Braveheart was a true story and to give us all a sense of what the movie was about because he was taking the time to make sure that he was doing the right thing by making Braveheart a story with a real focus on the characters and the world around them.
